No.62

Hey Reader,

Over the last 6 months, my scalp has been very dry. If I scratched my head, snowflakes would fall out.

It got to the point where I started apologizing to my barber after he draped the cape around my neck. He joked around and asked me if I had heard of Head and Shoulders.

I was embarrassed.

Fortunately, my wife also has a dry scalp and said I could try any of her products. I took her up on the offer.

Since implementing this new hair care routine over the last month, no more flakes. I can scratch my head without any fear of snow.

The Routine

Step 1: Exfoliating Shampoo. I use Briogeo's scalp revival, charcoal + coconot oil, micro-exfoliating shampoo. It even comes with a silicone scalp brush. Apply, followed by circular motions with the brush and then let it sit for 3 minutes. Rinse it out. My scalp has never felt so squeaky clean.

Step 2: Rebalancing shampoo. Semi Di Lino has a purifying low shampoo designed to rebalance a dry scalp. Apply with circular motions on the scalp, let it sit for 3 minutes. Rinse it out and feel the scalp come back to life.

Step 3: Moisturize. Olaplex has a moisture mask that moisturizes, smooths and adds body and shine. This product is for the hair shaft, not so much the scalp. Let it sit for 3 minutes. Rinse it out.

Step 4: This happens after the shower. Semi Di Lino's scalp renew is an energizing tonic spray. 6 sprays on the scalp. There's a tingly sensation. Continue with circular motions on the scalp. No more rinsing out, just let it be.

Step 5: Calming Tonic. Keeping it rolling with Semi Di Lino. This product is in a dropper bottle. 2 drops on the scalp, circular motions on the scalp. Let it be.

Step 6: Final step, blow dry into style. Right now, I'm rocking a 60/40 brushed back look with volume. Finally embracing where my natural parting lies. Maybe I'll share more about that journey next week.

This routine has honestly changed my life. Don't get me wrong, I love rocking my hoodie pulled over my head, but I was doing it because I was hiding the flakes. Now I can do it just because.

So what's the point?

If you have a dry and flakey scalp, you should definitely consider this routine, but that's not the point.

As licensed barbers, we are still the client. We have hair problems and scalp challenges. We need to be mindful of our own journey and try out new routines and products to solve our own problems.

This gives us more knowledge and positions us to give better recommendations to our clients. It is our duty to constantly evolve so we can best serve our clients.

Also, this will lead to more profits. Guess where my wife bought all those products from? Directly from her hair stylist in the salon. I swear, us barbers are leaving a lot of money on the table.

If you also have a dry scalp, or have a client that has one, hit reply to this email. I'll send you all the direct links to the products I've been using.

Do you want to be featured?

Last but not least, I'm always on the look out for headlines taking place across the industry and would love to feature you.

So, if you are hosting an event or releasing a new product and you want it to be featured in theGuideline, then this form is for you!

Alright, finished with No.62. See you next week!
