Hey Reader,
Not sure about you, but it's been 6 years since I passed state board and officially became a Licensed Barber. That's nothing compared to the barber who's been doing this for 40 years, but is still something.
Whenever this time of year rolls around, I start to get reflective on the past year thinking about where I am, where I've been and where I'm going.
I'll be honest, I'm in the middle of a big career pivot and have been struggling a bit with my vision. I've been sampling the buffet of sorts to figure out what exactly is my next big step.
Here are a few things that have been happening.
Sales Consulting
After quitting my role as Director of Sales for Mariana Tek, multiple opportunities presented themselves for sales consulting. I've been spending some time each week designing strategies, coaching sales reps and leading sales trainings for a few clients. I'm unsure what this will evolve into, but I'm going with the flow.
Hairdressing Made Easy
Speaking of sales, I also started working with Travis Parker from Hairdressing Made Easy. Part of my onboarding has been to go through the HME on-demand video content. It's honestly been really fun. I've always enjoyed doing long hair cuts and have had several long hair clients come into the shop lately. This online content has been really helpful and is genuinely making hairdressing more easy.
Travis is hosting a free webinar this Monday, June 23rd. It's called 'The 3 Elements of Every Haircut'. I highly recommend registering for the webinar if you're looking to brush up on your long hair cutting skills. Here's the link to register.
Solo Suite Coming Soon
I just signed a lease for a solo suite in downtown San Luis Obispo! My days look like taking clients in the chair and also taking zoom calls. The barbershop isn't the best place for this, so I pulled the trigger on renting a suite. If you're wanting to follow along on the journey of building out this space, follow along on my YouTube. I'm planning to revive the channel.
Registered for World of STMNT
I'll be headed down to LA for World of STMNT on July 19th. I didn't get the premier pass, just the general ticket. If you're going to be there, please let me know! I'm thinking about coordinating a coffee meet up or dinner meet up for anyone attending.
Almost to 100 newsletters
This is my 99th newsletter. I can't believe next week will be 100. I always told myself that once I hit 100, I'd re-evaluate what would be next in my content creation journey.
Stay tuned.
P.S. If you've read this far, thanks! You could be doing a lot of things, but you chose to take a few minutes to read this newsletter. For that, I'm genuinely grateful and hope these emails have been worth the read.
In case you missed it, I released a new podcast episode about the creator economy and its influence on barbering. I've got some good feedback on the episode, maybe you'll find it valuable too. Link to listen.
