Hey Reader, Every business needs leads. The number of leads is often a key metric that can predict the success of any business. A business lead (or sales lead) is a person who is interested in the product or service you sell. Let's take barber school for example. In order for a barber school to stay open, they need people interested in attending their school. If no one is interested, then no one will enroll, and if no one enrolls, then the school makes no money, and if the school makes no money, then goodbye school. The school is dependent on leads. No leads, no students. Let's take a barbershop for example. In order for a shop to make money, you need people interested in your services, if no one is interested, then no one will sit in your chair, and if no one sits in your chair, then you won't make money, and if you make no money, then you'll probably need to find another job. Your income is dependent on leads. No leads, no clients. Busy barbershops don't have a leads problem. Empty barbershops have a leads problem. Lead SourcesA lead source refers to the channel through which a potential customer first discovers your business. For example, if someone searches for a product or service and finds your website through a Google search, then Google is the lead source. If someone found you on Instagram, then Instagram is the lead source. If someone was referred to you by a friend, then Referral is the lead source. If someone drove by and saw your sign, then Drive By is your lead source. The Problem: No DataMost barbers have no idea how people discovered them, so they have no idea what is working or what is not working. Are you Instagram posts working? How do you know? Does your website drive new clients? How do you know? Are your clients referring you new leads? How do you know? The problem is many barbers don't care to ask, they are just glad someone is in their chair. The Solution: Just AskCan you promise me something? Your next new client that sits in your chair, ask them how they found out about you. And write it down. Your next regular client, ask them too. "Hey, I don't know if I've ever asked but how did you find me? I'm evaluating my marketing strategy and am wondering what's working for me and what's not." StrategizeTbh, I think you should ask this question to every client who sits in your chair. But that's just me. You'll eventually find out if Instagram, Google, word of mouth, your sign or something else is your top lead source. Do me a favor, ask every client this week how they found you. Next week, we'll go over what to do with the data. But for now, just start by asking the simple question. 'So, how'd you find me?'
