Hey Reader,
It's been a minute since I've covered headlines across the barber industry. Plus, I'm feeling a little scattered brained. So instead of choosing one topic, let's talk about a few.
Tariff Talk
If you're wondering how tariffs are impacting barber brands across the industry, watch this short post from SLCKR. Something that cost $40 has suddenly turned into $100.
If you're looking for more takes on the topic, here's another reel from one of my favorite fashion brands: 3sixteen. In it, he breaks down 3 ways the tariffs affect small fashion brands. Here's the link.
Will we see a major price increase of barber products across the industry? Time will tell. Sending love to all the barber brands out there.
Why charge $300 for a haircut
During a recent Gem Talk interview, Matty Conrad pulled the curtain back on a conversation he had with a barber who charges $300 for a haircut. You can watch the clip here or read the quote below.
Matty: Do you really cut hair for $300?
Carlos: Yeah
Matty: Why?
Carlos: Because I don't want to do haircuts and if you want me to cut your hair you have to pay me that much to do it.
What an interesting answer. The points shared in this interview will surely change your perspective on the current state of our industry. It's worth the listen.
Learning to use AI
AI is on my mind. One of the podcasts I listen to weekly is called the Nathan Barry Show. Nathan is the founder of Kit (the company that makes this email newsletter possible). He recently interviewed Jay Singh where they talked all things AI.
Before listening to the episode, I had dabbled in using ChatGPT. After listening, I started using Vercel and created a very basic web app. People are saying AI will rapidly change the speed of product creation.
I'm keeping my out for how AI will introduce new products and innovation to our industry beyond helping a client find the right hairstyle for their head shape.
Speaking of podcasts
I made a return and released a new podcast episode. If you didn't know, I host a podcast called Beyond Barber School. This episode is an expansion of my BarberEVO article that dives into the creator economy. Give it a listen!
See you at CT?
It's official. I'll be heading out to Connecticut for the CT Barber Expo. May 17th-19th. If you'll be there, please reply to this email and let me know. I might plan a little meet up for anyone who will be there.
Speaking of barber expos, if you're going to one soon, be sure to read these 5 tips on how to maximize your day. It's got some good stuff in there.
Alright, finished with No.94. See you next week!
