Hey Reader,
It's a new year and there's something we all need to do. Take inventory of our tools.
This past year, did you notice the amount of barbershop break ins? Or trucks driving into barbershops? I know you saw those Stylecraft clippers catch fire.
Sometimes we need to prepare for the worst. Hopefully none of us experience any of these scenarios, but we should be prepared.
What if someone broke into our shop and stole all our tools? How much money would it cost to buy everything again?
If you have stolen items covered in your insurance policy, then you'd start by filing an insurance claim. From there, you'll need to provide details about what items were stolen including: the item details, purchase date and price of the item. Without proof, the insurance company might not reimburse you at all. That would be a bummer.
In other words, save your receipts.
If you bought it in person, take a picture of the receipt. If you bought it online, save the receipt as a PDF. Store them in a folder on Google Drive.
Why bring this up now? It's a new year. It's the perfect time to take inventory of your tools and get an accurate estimate of how much your kit costs. Most of us probably know how much our sneaker collections are worth (shout out to StockX), but have no idea how much our barber kit is worth. Ain't that something?
Not gonna lie, this activity will take some time. My recommendation is to lay out all your tools on your station or a table. Take pictures of all your tools. From there, create an Google Sheet or Excel Sheet and fill out the items.
If you want a template, just reply to this email with 'TEMPLATE' and I'll send you the one I used.
Alright, finished with No.81. See you next week!
