Hey Reader,
The Knicks aren't the only ones in NYC that are having a historic run right now. Before the newsletter takes an unexpected turn, we'll cover 12Pell's activation, give a shout out to Marv and Wahl Barber Academy's new t-shirt drop. It's gonna be a good one.
A12Pell x STMNT Collaboration
They called it 'The Run'. 12Pell hosted another multi-day activation but this time it was in collaboration with STMNT Grooming, Naamza and the CT Barber Expo.
Speaking of the Connecticut Barber Expo, Jay Majors and the team are celebrating their 15th year. Some of you might even be reading this at the Mohegan Sun and gearing up for Day 2. I'm not there this year, but that won't stop me from sharing some thoughts and observations.
The Run Explained
'The Run' was somewhat of a NYC pre-game warmup for the expo. When I was there for GG, I got a behind the scenes look of the planning process. Let's just say, I was very said to miss it.
Naamza led their signature workshop on men's perm techniques. STMNT Grooming's Co-Creators Julius Caesar and Sofie Pok, along with Global Ambassador Cat pulled up for the pizza pop up, barber jam and industry night. Barbers travelled from around the country to soak in the run in preparation for the road trip to CT.
It looked to be another historic 12Pell community event that once again highlights the power of collaboration and community. The only thing that could have possibly topped it was being in NYC watching the Knicks pull out Game 2 and go up 2-0.
Speaking of the Knicks, Marvy Marv has been on a historic run with his NBA playoffs content. Beyond the entertainment, it's a master class in finding that unique intersection of content creation from the lens of a barber.
Fades that Tell a Story
On a completely a different note that will eventually tie in, Wahl Barber Academy just dropped a t-shirt that stopped me mid-scroll. The back of the tee said 'Fades that Tell a Story'.
This isn't just a t-shirt. Every fade represents something deeper. The hours, the discipline, the setbacks and the growth behind the chair.
Every blend shows progress. Every client adds to the story. Every student is building something bigger than the moment.
On the surface, it's a uniform their academy students can wear to school. Beneath the surface, there's that deeper message.
As we know, fades only last so long until you need another one. Ironically, they fade away far enough that they start to look just as blurry as they did when you were done.
And yet, each one is a stroke on the canvas. Often unsure what the larger picture will end up being, we continue to fade. There's beauty in the simplicity of our craft.
Whether it's 12Pell, Julius, Sofie, Cat, Naamza or any of the thousands of barbers at the CT Expo today, it's grounding to zoom out and just be grateful that as the fades continue, so do the stories.
Cheers to telling damn good stories.
Alright, finished with No.118. Look out, got a little deep there at the end. We'll see you in the next one.
P.S. If you're at the CT Barber Expo, be sure to drop by the STMNT x 12pell booths. Highly recommend it.
