Love for LA (No.82)

No.82

Hey Reader,

It's hard to find words this week. I live several hours north on the coast of California. Like many, I haven't posted on social media but have been doom scrolling all week. A rollercoaster of emotions. From shock and disbelief, sadness to anger, confusion to frustration. An odd intersection of chaos and calm at times.

Initially I texted my brother who lives 6 miles south of Altadena. Then looked to see how close Culver City was to Pacific Palisades where my cousin, aunt and uncle live and run their restaurant. Thankfully they're okay. But, thousands of others are not as fortunate.

From the famous celebrities to families who have lived in these communities for generations. Homes and businesses, places of refuge and community gathering spaces vanished.

Questions that start with 'why' will likely never be answered. But questions that start with 'who' have a chance.

Who can help?

We're seeing the 'who' step up. The LA community and surrounding areas are rallying around those suffering. Organizations are organizing. Coordinators and are coordinating. Neighbors are neighboring.

Many heartbreaking stories have been told and many more are to come. If you know of any barbers or barbershops that have been affected, please reply to this email and let me know. I'm working on gathering a list to share with my audience.

Keeping this one short this week. Stay safe.
